Natural Gas Main Rupture
Just before 1700 on 17 September 2014 North Oldham was called to a gas main rupture along US Hwy 42 just East of the intersection with Ridgemoor Drive and alongside High Meadows Pike. Although fortunately the rupture did not ignite there was debris akin to “shrapnel” that injured two subcontractors at the excavation site and deposited dirt along a hundred feet of pavement.
24 residences in Covered Bridge Farm Subdivision were evacuated as a precaution. LG&E was able to secure valves to isolate the ruture by 9pm and after checking atmosphere readings in the area residents were allowed to return home. Gas is expected to be off in the are for an unknown time frame and US 42 will be shut down completelyu at first and then to one lane until repairs are completed.
Assistance was requested and received from OCEMS, OCPD, Prospect PD, Metro PD, Anchorage Fire & EMS, Westport FD, HCFD, LFRD and the Oldham County EMA. NOFD would like to thank all our mutual aid partners for their assistance and our residents for their cooperation!
