Explorer

The North Oldham Fire Department is looking for a few, exceptional, young adults between the ages of 14 and 18 to join our Fire Explorer Post.  This program, developed by the Boy Scouts of America is open to all interested young men and women in our area.  This program allows you to gain firsthand knowledge of the firefighting profession by training with firefighters on a variety of activities and tasks.  Providing opportunities for our young people to grow and learn in a balanced program like the fire service helps to instill core values in today’s youth.

The Explorer program helps provide necessary skills required to help make our youth strong leaders in our community and to help them obtain their personal goals.  These skills include but are not limited to: physical and mental fitness, positive social interaction, development of leadership skills, and increased self-confidence.  Our Post helps to serve as a potential recruitment tool for any young men or women that may want to pursue a possible career in the firefighting profession.

The trainings are on Thursday nights at our Skylight Station (8615 US Hwy 42) from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Explorers are trained on a variety of fire related subjects using both classroom and hands on techniques, all performed under the supervision of our advisors and company officers.  Stop by and check out the fun and exciting atmosphere of the fire service!

For more information call North Oldham Fire Skylight Station (502) 228-8062 or North Oldham Fire Goshen Station (502) 228-1447.
